GUTHRIE — Enid rallied but fell short in losing 23-21 at Guthrie in the opening football game of the season.
The Blue Jays built a 16-0 lead at one point in the first half, before settling for a 16-7 lead at the break.
The Plainsmen fought back in the second half, but came up short when a try for a two-point conversion failed. Enid had the ball one more time but lost it on downs.
The Plainsmen, under new head coach Rashaun Woods, are trying to rebound from a 1-9 season last year. Enid will play host to Ponca City Sept. 6.
