Majors return from long road trip today
The Enid Major American Legion baseball team will be home for the first time since June 16 when it entertains Oologah at 8 tonight at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
The Majors are coming off an 8-1 road trip during which they played games in Oklahoma, Colorado and Kansas. They have lost only once in the last 20 games.
"We're looking forward to being home," said Enid coach Bill Mayberry. "David Allen Memorial Ballpark is second to none."
Matt Peck will pitch for the Majors tonight.
"Oologah has always had a good team," Mayberry said. "They were a AAA team last year, but they had a good record against all the Major teams that reached the state tournament. They are well-coached."
Enid will take a 26-5-1 record into the game, including a five-game winning streak.
"We have hit the ball better than we have in the past," Mayberry said. "We're still getting good pitching. We matured a lot as a team on the trip. We're still trying to refine things. We're trying to play better defense. You win championships with defense."
