Alva American Legion to host tourney, banquet
The Alva American Legion Post 92 will host the AAA state baseball tournament July 21-25.
July 20, the Alva American Legion will hold a catered banquet at the Northwestern Oklahoma State ballroom for the competing teams.
Coaches and players eat free. Anyone else wanting to attend will have to pay $12.50 per plate.
Tickets may be purchased at Alva Chamber of Commerce, Holder Drug in Alva or by calling Kim Stotts at 580-554-1938.
Enid Gators finish 2nd at tournament
The 11-year-old Enid Gators baseball team finished second in the recent USSSA Warm-up Tournament in Stillwater.
The Gators lost to the Ardmore Ruf-nex 9-6 in the championship game.
The Gators defeated the Ponca City Astros 5-2 in the first round before losing to the Springdale, Ark., Smash 4-0. They came back through the losers bracket to beat the Amarillo, Texas, Twins 5-2 and the Smash 5-2 to reach the finals.
Team members are Trey Gilbertson, Brett McNaughton, Trevor Miller, Garrett Sharp, Brooks LaBrue, Tanner Leon, Curtis Shelton, Haden Houska, Sage Powers, Kevin Poage, Bo Nealis and Brady Baugh.
The Gators (37-15-2) will play in the USSAA AA World Series next week.
Alumni Weekend Golf Classic coming up
The Alumni Weekend Golf Classic will be held Saturday at Okeene Municipal Golf Course.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 10 and a prize giveaway at 4 p.m.
Proceeds will benefit Okeene Municipal Hospital.
Prizes will be given to winning teams, for closest to the pin and longest drive.
Participants can register as a foursome or an individual.

Enid Moose Lodge Golf Tournament coming up
The Enid Moose Lodge Golf Tournament will begin at 11 a.m. July 23 at Pheasant Run Golf Club.
Cost is $220 per team for the four-person scramble or $55 per player. Flights will be determined by the number of entrants.
Green fees, cart and meal are included in the entry fees. Additional meals will be available at $5 per person.
A player pool ($5 per participant) will be available. There will be closest-to-the-hole contests.
Entry deadline is July 21.

PHS softball team begins practice July 28
Pioneer's fast-pitch softball team will begin preseason practice at 8:30 a.m. July 28 at the school, Lady Mustangs coach Dave Riesen said.
Before a player can practice, she must have a physical on file. Those who do not have physical forms can pick one up at the high school office.

Enid Prairie League team beats Choctaw
CHOCTAW -- Seth Floyd went three for three as Enid beat Choctaw 8-5 in the Prairie League Postseason baseball Tournament Tuesday.
Caleb Culver went three for four, while Joe Phillips, Blake McMullen, Eric Ramirez, Grant Ogle and Daniel Fishbach all had two hits. Tyler Barnes and Mike Phillips were one for three.
Ramirez was the winning pitcher.
Enid lost to Norman North 8-5 Monday in the first round.
Enid plays an undetermined opponent at 6 tonight in an elimination game at Choctaw.
