Gridiron Club receives

grant for equipment



Enid Gridiron Club, Enid High School’s football booster club, is one of nine organizations in Oklahoma receiving grants from USA football to help buy equipment.

The club will receive a $1,500 package that offers a variety of football equipment and options.

“That’s nice,’’ said Enid athletic director Bill Mayberry. “I’m going to visit with coach (Tommy) Parker and see what direction he wishes to take.’’



EJRT looking for

help in baseball



Enid Joint Recreation Triad’s baseball program is accepting bids for field maintenance, concessions and umpire in charge.

The contract would run through the 2010 baseball season.

ARC plans to hold

basketball tourney



Alva Recreation Complex is holding a 3-on-3, half-court basketball tournament Sunday through Dec. 30. There will be men’s and women’s brackets.

Games start at 6 p.m.

YMCA basketball

deadline Dec, 31



Denny Price Family YMCA is continuing registration for its adult and youth basketball leagues.

There will be both men’s and women’s leagues in the adult competition. Cost is $325 per team. Deadline is Dec. 31.

Youth league has two divisions — pee wee (three year olds to second-grade) and competitive (grades 3-8). Cost is $30 for Y members and $55 for non-members.

Indoor league

Enid Indoor Soccer Arena is registering boys and girls ages 4 to 14 for its indoor soccer leagues, which begin Jan. 4.

Registration is $30 per player.

Teams that sign up need to have a minimum of five players. The deadline to enter is Friday.

Maynor from Jazz



OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma City Thunder are shaking up their backup point guard position, acquiring rookie Eric Maynor in a trade with the salary-dumping Utah Jazz.

Maynor, the 20th overall pick in this year’s draft, was averaging 5.2 points and 3.1 assists in 26 games with the Jazz this season. He figures to take over as the backup point guard for Oklahoma City, which waived reserves Shaun Livingston and Mike Wilks to clear room for him on the roster.
