Northwestern Oklahoma State will try to avoid a second straight 0-7 start when the Rangers visit East Central today for a 2 p.m. kickoff.

The Rangers (0-6 overall, 0-6 conference) have lost to all six of the Great American Conference members in Arkansas, including a 45-21 loss at Ouachita Baptist last week.

The Rangers, after averaging 496 miles per trip on their three visits to Arkansas (Harding, Arkansas-Monticello and Ouachita Baptist) welcome only a 248-mile trip to Ada.

East Central (2-3) is coming off an open date. The Tigers broke a three-game losing streak by beating GAC rival Southern Nazarene 46-14 last week.

Redshirt freshman Reid Miller, who had been battling injuries, appears to have re-established himself as the starting quarterback.

He was 16-of-28 passing for 232 yards and three touchdowns in the Ouachita Baptist loss. He’s completed 42 of 96 passes for 429 yards and three touchdowns and two interceptions. He has rushed for two scores.

Mervin Stewart became the first Ranger wide receiver to top 100 yards in game since Week 8 of last season when he caught seven passes for 108 yards.

East Central quarterback Spencer Bond is fourth in the GAC in passing yards per game (248.8). He has thrown for nine touchdowns and six interceptions.

The ECU roster includes area players Garber quarterback Jordan Avants, Enid running back Seth Handley and Garber offensive lineman Jeremy Newton.

Handley has rushed for 17 yards on seven carries. He had eight yards on two tries against Southern Nazarene. He is averaging 13.7 yards on kick returns.

The game can be heard on KALV (1430 AM).
