Mesa handed Madison its first NJCAA World Series defeat in run-rule fashion Wednesday night at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
Mesa scored seven runs in the eighth inning to defeat Madison, 11-3.
After trailing 4-1, Madison cut Mesa’s lead to one run with solo home runs from Nick Gile and Jarrett Scheelk. But Mesa pulled away in the seventh inning with RBI hits from Connor Denning, Paul Steffensen and Taylor Darden. Madison also allowed a run on an error and walked a batter with the bases loaded.
Madison initially held a 1-0 lead through the first inning, but Mesa overtook the Wolfpack with RBI hits from Zack Wagner, Ben Ferguson, Luke Patty and Greg Student.
Mesa and Madison will meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in an elimination game. The winner will advance to the World Series championship game on Friday.
