BARTLESVILLE -- Enid could ask "what if'' after a 7-0 loss to Shattuck in the winners' bracket finals of the state Class AA American Legion baseball tournament Saturday night. Shattuck scored four runs in the top of the seventh to break open a close game (3-0). Enid managed only three hits, singles by Tobin Mateychick, Dylan Nave and Zach Gonzalez.

But they just missed a fourth hit which could have turned around the game.

With Mateychick and Cody Passmore on second and first, Charles Crawford was robbed of a hit on a shot down the left field line in the fifth.

"Their left fielder made one heck of a play,'' said Enid coach James Peoples. "It could have been 3-2 with a runner on second and us having a chance."'

Brandon Martens threw well in taking the loss, Peoples said.

"It sounds a lot worst than it was,'' Peoples said. "Brandon threw strikes and we made some plays behind him."'

The AA's faced the Pryor-Poteau winner at 6 tonight. That winner will play Shattuck in the championship round immediately after. Peoples said the game could be switched around.

The losers bracket winner would have to beat Shattuck. If a second final is needed, it would be played Monday night.

Nave is scheduled to pitch for Enid.
