Edwards adds to postseason honors with All-State selection

ENID, Okla. — Northwest Oklahoma prep football players are once again well-represented on the Oklahoma Coaches Association's All-State and All-Star by Class teams that were announced Monday.

Chisholm's Nate Edwards, Enid News & Eagle's 11-man Player of the Year, was one of five area or local players named to OCA's West All-State team. Edwards, who led Chisholm with 103 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and had two defensive touchdowns, was chosen at linebacker by the coaches.

Edwards is joined on the 11-man West All-State team by 8-man standout, Pond Creek-Hunter's Kellen Claflin. Selected as an offensive lineman, Claflin excelled on both sides of the ball for the Panthers. Claflin was also selected to the Enid News & Eagle All-Northwest 8-man football team. Edwards also was named to OCA's Class 2A All-Star team

Rounding out the area All-State selections were Kingfisher offensive lineman Wes Hine and defensive lineman Riley Myers, along with Cashion defensive lineman Ryan Baker. Hine, a Northern Iowa commit, graded out a 96% at his position was credited with 150 pancake blocks. Myers had 64 tackles, including nine tackles for loss.

All three were also selected to the Enid News & Eagle All-Northwest team. Myers and Hine are also on OCA's Class 3A All-Star team. Baker was selected as a Class A All-Star by the coaches.

Chisholm linebacker Hudson Fields and defensive lineman C.J. Bennett join Edwards on the Class 2A West All-Star team. Fields was credited with 89 tackles this past season. Bennett had 20 tackles for loss and 14 sacks. Both also earned ENE All-NW first team honors earlier this month.

The Class A West All-Star team also included several area players. Named to the squad were Fairview's Drew Houk at linebacker, Watonga's Micheal Reza at defensive back, Cashion defensive back Alex Nabavi and defensive lineman Colton Ogletree and Crescent's Trent Fisher at defensive lineman. All, with the exception of Ogletree, were also ENE All-NW selections.

Houk had 149 tackles this past season. Reza made his mark on offense with 1,108 yards passing and 14 touchdowns. Fisher had 114 tackles and 13 sacks

Kingfisher defensive back Keaton Abercrombie joined teammates Myers and Hine on OCA's Class 3A West All-Star squad. Abercrombie, a first-team ENE All-NW selection, had 82 tackles this past season.

Kingfisher's Jeff Myers was named West All-State head coach. The annual All-State game will be played July 31 at a venue to be determined by OCA.
