Regarding a letter that was written by Jim Hurd -- Mr. Hurd's appraisal of Harvey Theilen was so correct. However, one part of Harvey Theilen's career has been overlooked. And since some of my children were part of it at Hayward Grade School, I feel others need to know. He and Freddie Jindra, both now deceased, were teachers, coaches and principals at Hayward Grade School. And both were the very best that it ever had. Any school would have been proud, and rightly so, to have them. Some people have that God-given gift of being so great in all they do and also impress the children they are guiding to do their best at all times. Both of these men were that way. To prove the point that Harvey Theilen was such a person, when Hayward School was disbanded, Harvey was immediately hired by the Covington School. And he was there until his retirement.

We can only hope and pray that other teachers, coaches and principals will be inspired by their wonderful example and even though they may not have known Mr. Theilen or Mr. Jindra personally, be led to give of themselves as those two did.
