Three Enid students were among 270 young Oklahoma artists picked to participate in a prestigious two-week study program at Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain over the summer.
Students were selected through competitive auditions, a release from OSAI said, and spent June 8-23 "immersed in a unique multidisciplinary arts experience while developing their individual talents."
For six hours a day, the young artists would study one of eight disciplines in the literary, visual and performing arts, the release said. Evening performances and showcases were put on to allow students to appreciate and interact with the other the other disciplines.
Chisholm High School student Cailey Luskey, and Enid High School student Anthony Carranza were members of the chorus, the release said.
“To say that I’m excited for OSAI this summer would be an understatement,” Luskey said, prior to the start of the summer program. “It’s my first year to attend, and I absolutely cannot wait to spend two weeks focusing on my passions and being pushed to my artistic limits. To be seriously musically challenged, to collaborate with talented artists, to make music with awesome people and under incredible instructors, and to make friends with people passionate about the same things I am... what more could I ask for?”
Oklahoma Bible Academy student Parker Schovanec studied drawing and painting. Before heading off to OSAI, Schovanec said he was thankful for the opportunity.
“I would like to thank my art teacher at OBA, Mrs. Russell, for presenting this opportunity to me and for teaching and supporting me. I hope to advance my understanding of art and further my skills. I'm excited to meet other people who have the same interests.”
Nearly 1,000 auditioned for the 270 available spots, and each student accepted attends on full scholarship, the release said.
"Students study, reside and build community during this two-week institute, creating lifelong friendships and setting students on a course for future engagement with the arts," according to the release.
