Wednesday morning fire damages house

A house on West Phillips sustained damage in a fire Wednesday morning.

Enid Fire Department received a call at 8:06 a.m. reporting the fire at 6609 W. Phillips. When firefighters arrived, flames and smoke were showing through the roof, said Kenny Smith, EFD deputy fire chief.

Firefighters with Engine 5 were first on the scene, Smith said, and did a good job containing the blaze. They "made an aggressive attack" through the garage and prevented the fire from spreading, Smith said.

Structural damage was confined mainly to the roof and ceiling above the garage, he said, and did not spread to the rest of the house, although there was some smoke damage in the house.

No one was at home at the time, Smith said, and neighbors noticed smoke and called the fire department.

Because the house is outside Enid city limits, Oklahoma State Fire Marshal's Office investigated and determined the cause was electrical, Smith said, and started in the attic.

An EFD report listed damage at $60,000.
