Oklahoma man dies from accident in Blaine County

WATONGA, Okla. — A 48-year-old Cement is dead due to injuries sustained from an early morning accident Tuesday in Blaine County.

At 6:30 a.m. Jerry Wayne Smith was behind the wheel of a semi truck, northbound on U.S. 270, when he went off the west edge of the road, crashed into creek embankment and rolled, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol news release.

Smith was transported by AirEvac to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he later died from his injuries, the release said.

The condition of the driver and cause of collision are both listed as "apparently sleepy," in the release. The weather was cloudy but the roadway was dry, and his seat belt was in use.

Smith was approximately 4.8 miles south of Watonga when the accident occurred, the release said.
