Construction of the downtown hotel and placement of a popular statue will have to wait.
Crews started installing a new sanitary sewer line this week; the northbound lanes of Independence are expected to be blocked off through July.
A city spokesman recently told the Enid News & Eagle that construction work on the downtown Hilton Garden Inn has been delayed so that the utility renovation could begin.
Enid City Commissioners also have kept Boomer, a bronze statue created by Harold T. Holden, in a warehouse until it can be fitted to its final pedestal. Once the heavy equipment moves off of Independence, the iconic statue will be placed in a plaza alongside the road, between Convention Hall and the future hotel.
The lane of traffic will be closed from Park to Maine.
