ENID, Okla. — Enid Police Department detectives arrested a 40-year-old Enid man Friday on three complaints of lewd molestation of a 9-year-old girl.
Capt. Tim Jacobi said the investigation began when police were contacted by the victim’s mother May 23.
"She reported to officers her daughter had told her she had been molested by her babysitter, Jason Merworth," Jacobi said. "The victim was later forensically interviewed by a specialist. During the interview, very graphic and specific details were described by the victim."
The captain said a number of incidents were described and all were said to have occurred at a residence on the north side of Enid.
"Detective Tanner Austin interviewed Merworth on May 23," Jacobi said. "During the interview, Merworth denied any acts of molestation but admitted to specific details that corroborated the victim’s account."
Based on the results of his investigation, Austin obtained an arrest warrant for Merworth.
Formal charges have not been filed against Merworth, a search of online court records show.
