Enid YWCA is asking people who support stopping domestic violence to wear purple Friday to bring awareness to the cause.

“The purple ribbon is the unifying symbol of courage, survival, honor and dedication to ending domestic violence, said Amanda Murfin, YWCA community education and prevention specialist.

Since 1987, October has been Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“In addition to the demonstration of support for victims and advocates, the display of purple ribbons throughout a community conveys a powerful message that Enid is not a place for domestic violence,” Murfin said.
