Tickets still available for annual Tombstone Tales

Erroll Wofford welcomes guests to a prior year's Tombstone Tales at Enid Cemetery.

ENID, Okla. — Tickets are available for the eighth annual Tombstone Tales presented by the Chisholm Trail Coalition.

This year's tales are set for Oct. 11 and 12 and will be held at Enid Cemetery, 212 W. Willow, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with multiple tours held each night. Tickets are available at the Visit Enid Welcome Center, 201 W. Garriott.

Chisholm Trail Coalition member Errol Wofford said the tales are not meant to be scary but are instead a look at the lives of those who lived and died in Enid.

"We have three different units that go and they’re all in a half-hour time frame," Wofford said. "There’s plenty of tickets and plenty of times for people to choose from."

He said the tours make 12 stops at grave sites in Enid Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Enid that began in 1897.

"This isn’t a scary tour, it’s an educational and historical tour of people who’ve lived in the area, and died, and were buried in the Enid cemetery," Wofford said. "We honor the people that have lived here and have an interesting story to tell about their life and what happened to them. We're just trying to pass their history onto the people currently living in Enid."

He said the Enid Cemetery Board will also have a fundraiser each night selling hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and a drink for a donation. The proceeds will go toward unforeseen expenses incurred by the cemetery.
