STILLWATER, Okla. — Free dental screenings and treatment will be available to the public during OkMOM 2020, Feb. 7-8, at Payne County Expo Center in Stillwater.

Volunteers are needed for the event, and Enid Community Clinic is working to arrange transportation to the event for those in need.

Oklahoma Mission of Mercy, or OkMOM, relies on volunteer dentists, technicians and organizers to provide free dental care to those in need. Since 2010, OkMOM has treated 16,138 patients, totaling more than $12.74 million in donated dental care, according to its website.

The two-day dental clinic is "designed to meet the oral health needs of dental patients of all ages by providing free dental care to as many adults and children as time, volunteers and supplies will allow," according to their website.

All services are free and provided on a first-come, first-served basis. OkMOM organizers urge patients to "get in line early as we reach capacity very quickly."

Capacity for each day is estimated at 1,000 patients, and once capacity is reached no more patients will be accepted that day. Heated waiting areas are provided beginning at 8 p.m. the night before each day of OkMOM.

Patients are advised to expect it to take up to 8 hours to complete the process. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for patients at no cost.

All ages will be seen, but minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

OkMOM will not provide braces, dentures, root canals on back teeth and implants, or extraction of impacted wisdom teeth. For patient safety, OkMOM cannot treat patients whose blood pressure levels are greater than 180/100 or whose blood sugar levels are greater than 300.

Volunteers are needed for the two-day event, and volunteers need not have any dental or medical training. General labor volunteers help provide various tasks such as set-up, traffic and crowd control, registration and cleanup.

For more information or to volunteer, visit https://www.okmom.org/volunteers. Anyone needing transportation to the event can contact Enid Community Clinic at (580) 233-5300 and leave a message with name and phone number.

OkMOM is sponsored by Oklahoma Dental Association, Oklahoma Dental Foundation and primarily funded by Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation.
