Northwest Oklahoma Blood Institute is offering incentives for donors who give through Tuesday. "Things are pretty tough going into the holiday weekend since so many of our regular donors are involved in harvest or are taking vacations," said Kenda Morris, with NWOBI. "... with so many people traveling, there is usually an increase in accidents which can result in ... need for blood."
Donors will receive a free T-shirt of their choice, including the limited-edition "Celebrate Free-dom" design, and a baseball cap.
In addition, donors will receive double points in the Members for Life donor rewards program and double entries to win one of two seven-day cruises for two. Donors will be treated to breakfast in the morning or lunch during the day. On Tuesday, donors will receive a root beer float in a travel mug.
"We always need all blood types, but right now we have a special need for A-positive, O-positive and O-negative donors. We are asking donors who are these blood types to make a special effort to give the gift of life leading up to the holiday," Morris said. "And for those who don't know their blood type, we offer that testing for free with each donation along with a free cholesterol test."
NWOBI will have extended hours -- 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. -- today and July 6 and will be open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Regular hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mon-day, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. NWOBI will be closed Monday.
For information or to make an appointment, call 233-9323 or (800) 299-9323.
