ENID, Okla. — Jeff Mullin was named a Columnist of the Year finalist in Division I in the 2019 Best of CNHI contest.
Mullin received the recognition for three columns: “A trip to the grocery store: Stranger in a strange land” from Jan. 6, 2019, “Time plays no favorites, even with free kittens” from Oct. 27, 2019, and “We take our Air Force brothers, sisters for granted” from Dec. 1, 2019.
“These columns show a great deal of humanity and humor,” the judge wrote. “I teared up after reading the kittens and taking for granted columns. Terrific work by a quality community journalist.”
Mullin, who retired in 2017 after 41 years of working professionally as a full-time journalist, still writes a column every Sunday in the News & Eagle and serves on its weekly Editorial Board.
In 2017, Mullin was named OPA Column Sweepstakes winner by the Oklahoma Press Association for a sixth time, the most in OPA contest history.
