A Tonkawa man was injured early Saturday when the motorcycle he was driving struck a deer on U.S. 412 just east of the Garfield-Noble county line.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Randy Lee Byrum, 46, Tonkawa, was eastbound on a 1996 Kawasaki early Saturday morning when a deer ran onto the roadway. Although Byrum swerved in an attempt to avoid striking it, the motorcycle hit the deer anyway.
The motorcycle continued 185 feet before coming to rest in the south ditch and catching fire.
Byrum was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center suffering from arm, leg and trunk injuries. He was admitted in stable condition, the patrol reported.
