CANTON, Okla. — A Longdale man was killed Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident near Canton.

Melvin E. Shaw, 83, was pronounced dead at the scene of head injuries, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

The accident happened at 3:15 p.m. at the junction of Oklahoma 51 and Oklahoma 58 about 1 mile east of Canton in Blaine County.

According to the report, Shaw was driving a 2007 Pontiac west on Oklahoma 51. He failed to yield from a stop sign and was hit by a 2015 Ford F550 driven by Cody J. Brooks, 24, of Fairview. Brooks was driving north on Oklahoma 58.

Brooks was taken to Fairview Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released, according to the report.

The highways were closed for 3 hours and 6 minutes.
