A prominent teacher and expert on child education and developmental psychology will provide free training about how to turn discipline problems into “teaching moments.”

The training is being offered Nov. 4 to local and area teachers, parents and child care providers by Enid Success By 6, a program of Community Development Support Association.

Success By 6 is dedicated to raising public awareness about the importance of early childhood development and school readiness.

Conscious Discipline Training by Dr. Becky Bailey is a seminar designed to teach people who work with young children how to transform aggressive behavior and offers 10 principles of positive discipline, said Paula Waters, Enid Success By 6 program coordinator.

“We decided to bring this to the Enid area as a result of the increase in ... emotional issues among young children,” Waters said.

The program is broken up into two sessions — 9 a.m. to noon on transforming aggressive behavior, and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on 10 principles of positive discipline. The program will be at Northern Oklahoma College Enid Gantz Center.

Bailey is founder of Loving Guidance Inc., a company dedicated to creating positive environments for children, families, schools and businesses, according to Bailey’s Web site at www.lovingguid ance.com.

Bailey’s Conscious Discipline is evidence-based and was named a national model for character education by Character Education Partnership in 2005.

Conscious Discipline Training is a classroom management program and social-emotional curriculum based on current brain research and developmentally appropriate practices, according to the Web site.

The program helps teachers, parents and child care providers transform conflict into teaching moments, ac-cording to Bailey.

Bailey is the author of seven books related to guidance and discipline. Bailey’s Conscious Dis-cipline books and re-sources will be available to purchase at the training.

Continuing education credits are available.
