ENID, Okla. — An armed robbery suspect was shot and killed Thursday morning by Enid Police Department officers.

At 10:22 a.m., an armed robbery occurred at Famous Footwear, 4408 W. Garriott, EPD Captain Tim Jacobi said.

"Descriptions of the suspect and vehicle were quickly obtained and officers learned that the suspect was armed with a handgun and a knife," Jacobi said. "Soon after, officers located the suspect vehicle driving near Rupe and Hayes."

Enid Police Department personnel work a crime scene in the vicinity of Washington and Frantz after a reported officer involved shooting of an armed robbery suspect.

"Officers attempted stop the vehicle but it failed to yield, the captain said. The man led officers through several south-side neighborhoods before coming to a stop near the intersection of Frantz and Washington.

"The suspect exited the car brandishing a weapon," Jacobi said. "He ignored numerous commands to drop the weapon before pointing it directly at the officers. The officers shot the suspect and he was pronounced dead at the scene."

"The Enid police officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave, a standard practice, while the investigation is conducted," Jacobi said. "No officers or citizens were injured during the incident."

He also said no one was injured during the store robbery.

Jacobi said the identity of the suspect is being withheld pending a report from the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office.
