ENID, Okla. — Enid Public Schools has contracted with Enid Police Department to provide an officer at Enid High School.
EHS Principal Dudley Darrow made the announcement in a message to parents Thursday.
A hearing to determine the future of former campus police chief Mike Dods’ employment with Enid Public Schools is scheduled at noon Nov. 14.
"As you likely know, Enid High School is currently without our usual campus police officers. One officer is currently attending training and will be returning to the district in just a few weeks," Darrow said in the message. "While law prohibits me from discussing the current employment situation that involves campus police, I want you to know that I have heard the concerns of parents, students and staff regarding the need for a law enforcement presence at EHS. I am very pleased to share that, beginning tomorrow morning, Enid Public Schools will be contracting with the Enid Police Department to have a full-time officer at Enid High School throughout the school day, while we are in transition. As always, EPD will be available to provide additional support to schools across the district as well. We are grateful for their assistance."
Following the Nov. 14 hearing, EPS school board members are scheduled to vote to either fully reinstate Dods as campus police chief or end his employment with the district. The public termination hearing will be held in the boardroom of the Administrative Services Center, 500 S. Independence.
Dods’ job is on the line due to alleged retaliation by EPS administration for disobeying directions to “hide acts of violent student conduct and student threats on multiple occasions,” according to Oklahoma Education Association, a teacher’s union supporting Dods.
Enid Public Schools responded to the allegations in a statement recently.
“There is nothing more important to Enid Public Schools than the safety of our students and staff. It is our greatest priority, and we would never compromise it,” district spokeswoman Amber Fitzgerald said. “Because this is a personnel matter, we are unable to discuss the specifics of the situation. I can share that we have worked in every possible way to ensure all state and federal laws, as well as the district’s employment contract and policies, have been followed and will continue to be followed.”
