ENID, Okla. — Various Enid animal agencies will be hosting Dog Days of Summer promotions throughout the month of August.

Enid Public Transportation Authority, City of Enid Animal Control and Enid SPCA are offering free rides on Enid buses for different contributions and also will be giving away prizes throughout the month.

A wristband for free rides with Enid Transit on Mondays in August and September will be given to those who bring a bag of cat or dog food to an Enid Transit driver.

If someone adopts a cat or dog, he or she will receive a free $20 punchcard good for 10 rides. Drivers also are giving out PAWSOME coins to those who ask for one, and those carrying it could win a prize at a later date.

There are other days throughout August to celebrate with animals, including Odie Day, which celebrates the pooch made famous through the Garfield comic strip, and International Cat Day. Both will be celebrated Aug. 8.

Pet owners are encouraged to check/update their pets' chips on Aug. 15, and Aug. 22 is a day dedicated to taking a cat to the veterinarian.

Aug. 17 might not be for the superstitious, as it is Black Cat Appreciation Day, but there may be less qualms about recognizing Aug. 19, International Homeless Animals Day.

The last day of celebration for the month is Aug. 26, Dog Day.

Those wishing more information can call Enid Public Transportation Authority, (580) 233-7433.

EPTA also will have a Dog Days of Summer back-to-school backpack to give away through its Facebook page.
