Enid business Metals USA Plates and Shapes will receive a one-year federal Occupational Safety -- Health Administration inspection exemption certificate today. The presentation will be made by Oklahoma Labor Commissioner Brenda Reneau.

"High workers' comp costs have been a deterrent to business and industry in Oklahoma," Reneau said. "Companies like Metals USA Plates and Shapes take the initiative to reduce their on-the-job injury costs through workplace safety programs."

Metals USA, 101 E. Illinois, is one of 32 companies in the state that have earned the inspection exemption.

Metals USA has 53 employees. Company president is Lourenco Goncalves, and branch manager is James Pray. The facility has been open for more than 40 years and has operated as Metals USA Shapes and Plates since 1997.

It cuts and rolls sheets of various metals to meet customers' needs.

Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) was designed by OSHA to recognize businesses that work to improve safety.
