A former Enid man was honored recently by Colorado State University for outstanding contributions to the school.

Robert Everitt, chairman of Everitt Enter-prises, Fort Collins, Colo., was recognized by CSU as one of the most prominent business and community leaders.

Everitt, a 1946 graduate of Enid High School, received an honorary doctorate degree from CSU this spring.

Everitt moved to Colorado Springs in 1953 to manage a lumberyard.

Within two years, the business had expanded into real estate development.

The Everitt organization continued to develop, with retail stores and commercial and residential developments throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas and Oklahoma.

His company celebrated 50 years in Fort Collins in 2003.

Everitt has been active in Fort Collins through United Way, Food Bank for Latimer County, Boys and Girls Clubs and many other youth causes.

Everitt has served on or chaired a number of leadership organizations in Fort Collins.

He is a former chairman of Fort Collins Inc., a founding director of Fort Collins Down-town Development Authority and past president of Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce.
