Covington youth will attend Falls Creek Youth Camp Monday through July 30. Youth and sponsors will leave at 9 a.m. Monday from Covington First Baptist Church.

St. John's Lutheran Church will host vacation Bible school 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 1-5. "Safari Adventure" is the theme for the event, which is for children ages 3 through sixth grade. A closing program will be held the evening of Aug. 5.



Community



A board meeting for the town of Covington was held July 6. The board rejected the bid for the contract grant for wastewater system improvements due to lack of funds and a move to declare a town of Covington 1970 International fire truck surplus property died for lack of a motion. The board approved a crossing guard contract with the school district.

Covington Utilities Authority Board met July 12 to in special session to hire Jim Bell utilities superintendent. Bell takes over from Stanley Anglemyer who resigned May 31. Bell will begin his duties Aug. 1.

Covington Historical Society met July 11. The society has acquired an ice crusher that had been in the old Covington Ice House when Joe Ben Cassody owned it. They also have received some more old pictures and were trying to identify some of the people in the pictures. The group is in the process of acquiring a building to display items acquired. Members present were Arba Jo Pope, Viva Nida, Linda Postier, Dorothy Murphy, Harriett Hamm, Ruth Link and Christina Rink.

Heartland Share distribution will be 7-8 a.m. Saturday at Tri-County Senior Citizens Center. Volunteers need to arrive by 6.
