Protection from identity theft and the importance of verifying information will be among topics covered during a public forum at Autry Technology Center Thursday evening.

The free forum will be 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will be conducted by Elaine Dodd, of Oklahoma Bankers Association.

The forum is sponsored by Autry Tech and OBA.

The seminar also will cover learning how to protect against identify theft, including stories about ID scams that impact Oklahomans statewide.

Dodd also will offer tips on the importance of verification of information, including counterfeit ID, bills, checks, new accounts and loans.

Dodd will discuss current scams and trends, including Internet scams, counterfeit cashiers checks, Fraud-Net, ATM fraud, quick change artists and other problems.

Dodd, vice president of the OBA fraud unit, provides training and investigative assistance for banks in the state. She has a bachelor's degree in political science with a criminal justice emphasis from the University of Oklahoma.

Dodd retired from Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics after 22 years. While with OBN, she investigated white collar crimes as a diversion investigator and provided training for officers and medical professionals.
