ENID, Okla. — Oklahoma State Department of Health reported 22 more deaths, including an Enid man, in which COVID-19 was the cause or a contributor on Tuesday. Cases rose by more than 1,000.

OSDH reported 1,010 new cases, a .9% increase, on Tuesday, taking the cumulative number to 118,409, with 15,480 of those active, a single-day decrease of 311, and 101,656 recovered, including 1,299 since Monday. There have been 1,273 deaths overall since the virus was confirmed in Oklahoma in March 2020.

Twenty-one deaths, including the Garfield County resident, were in the 65 and older age group: seven men in Cleveland County; two women and a man in Oklahoma County; two women in Custer County; a man and a woman in Bryan County; men in Delaware, Pushmataha and Tulsa counties; and women in Okmulgee, Rogers and Wagoner counties. The death of a Lincoln County man in the 50-64 age group also was reported. None of the deaths were in the last 24 hours, according to the OSDH.

Cumulative hospitalizations saw a single-day increase of 136 to 8,540, according to OSDH. Of those, 885 were in hospitals, a single-day decrease of 22, with 305 in intensive care, an increase of 19, as of the OSDH Executive Report Tuesday evening.

ICU bed space was at 14% and medical/surgical beds were at 18% statewide, with 96% hospital reporting compliance, according to OSDH. That same report shows the Northwest region for OSDH with 40 hospitalizations on Monday, a decrease of six.

In Enid, St. Mary's Regional Medical Center reported 11 inpatients who had tested positive for the virus as of Tuesday morning. Integris Bass Baptist Health Center reported it had discharged six patients who had tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday and had eight remaining as of Tuesday.

Garfield County saw a gain of 28 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday for a total of 2,443, with 338 of those active, a single-day decrease of 16, and 2,077 recovered. Enid saw an increase of 25 cases for a total of 2,236, with 297 active and 1,911 recovered.

Other Northwest Oklahoma county case increases on Tuesday were six each in Kingfisher and Woodward, four in Noble, three each in Blaine and Woods, two each in Alfalfa and Grant and one in Major.

Case increases in Northwest Oklahoma cities and towns included seven in Woodward, four in Kingfisher, two each in Alva, Pond Creek and Watonga and one each in Burlington, Carmen, Cashion, Cleo Springs, Covington, Hennessey, Hillsdale, Jet, Kremlin, Meno and Okarche. Fairview and Mooreland saw a reduction of one case each.

State numbers

OSDH reported Tuesday morning 1,578,912 cumulative specimens have been tested for COVID-19 in the state this year, with 1,446,067, or 91.6% of those negative. Those testing positive represent just less than 3% of the state's population, listed at 3,956,971 in 2019, according to census.gov.

There have been 61,684 Oklahoma women and 56,607 men who have tested positive for COVID-19 as of the OSDH report Tuesday morning. There were 118 listed as unknown gender.

The 18-35 age group, with 300 new cases confirmed Tuesday, made up 34.6% of cases in the state. Other new case gains were 202 each in the 36-49 and 50-64 age groups, 190 in the 65 and older age group, 102 in the 5-17 age group and 14 in the 0-4 group.

Cumulative totals of confirmed cases as of Tuesday were 2,194 in the 0-4 age group, 11,323 in the 5-17 age group, 40,989 in the 18-35 age group, 25,325 in the 36-49 age group, 21,712 in the 50-64 age group and 16,859 in the 65 and older age group. There were seven listed as unknown age. The average age of those who have tested positive for COVID-19 is 39.9.

Of the overall 1,273 deaths in the state in which the virus was the cause or a contributor, 1,024 have been 65 and older and 194 have been ages 50-64, making up a combined 95.7% of the total. There have been 40 deaths in the 36-49 age group, 14 in the 18-35 age group and one in the 5-17 age group. More men, 712, than women, 561, have succumbed to the virus, according to OSDH on Tuesday. The average age of those who have died is 74.8.

OSDH reports 73.3% of those who have died have had a pre-existing condition. Of the deaths, 482, or 37.9%, have been long-term care or nursing home cases, according to OSDH. There have been 3,587 cases among long-term care residents and 2,051 cases among staff, according to Tuesday's Executive Report.

Data shows deaths in 69 of Oklahoma's 77 counties, with 231 in Oklahoma County; 201 in Tulsa County; 96 in Cleveland County; 55 in Rogers County; 41 in Washington County; 39 in McCurtain County; 37 in Creek County; 30 in Wagoner County; 28 each in Delaware, Garfield and Muskogee counties; 26 in Caddo County; 23 in Canadian County; 22 each in LeFlore and Lincoln counties; 20 in Pittsburg counties; 17 in Comanche County; 16 each in Grady and Kay counties; 14 in Pottawatomie County; 13 each in Bryan, Jackson, Mayes, Osage and Sequoyah counties; 12 in Payne County; 11 each in Adair and Beckham counties; 10 each in Carter, McClain, McIntosh and Texas counties; nine each in Okmulgee and Ottawa counties; eight each in Cherokee, Greer and Stephens counties; seven in Okfuskee County; six each in Custer, Garvin, Pushmataha and Seminole counties; five each in Haskell, Pawnee and Woodward counties; four each in Hughes, Johnston, Nowata, Pontotoc and Roger Mills counties; three each in Cotton, Kingfisher, Kiowa, Noble and Tillman counties; two each in Choctaw, Craig, Latimer, Logan, Major, Marshall and Murray; and one each in Atoka, Beaver, Blaine, Dewey, Grant, Harper and Love counties.

There were three cases with one recovered in the 73705 ZIP code, which is listed as Vance Air Force Base at https://www.unitedstateszipcodes.org/.

Long-term care cases

Long-term care or nursing home COVID-19 cases listed by OSDH in Garfield County include 37 recovered at The Commons, 27 with 21 recovered and five deaths at Golden Oaks Village, 23 with 16 recovered and two deaths at The Living Center, 18 with 16 recovered and one death at Kenwood Manor, seven recovered cases at Greenbrier Nursing Home, six with five recovered each at The Arbors Assisted Living Center; one recovered case at Greenbrier Village Residential Living; two recovered cases at Enid Senior Care; and two with one recovered case at Garland Road Nursing and Rehab Center, according to Tuesday's Executive Report.

COVID-19 cases in area long-term care facilities include four recovered cases at Summers HealthCare in Blaine County; six with three recovered at Community Health Center in Grant County; three recovered cases each at First Shamrock Care Center, two recovered cases at Countrywood Assisted Living and Memory Care and 73 with 71 recovered and two deaths at Hennessey Nursing & Rehab, in Kingfisher County; two recovered cases at Fairview Fellowship Home for Senior Citizens in Major County; one recovered case at Billings Fairchild Center in Noble County; two recovered cases each at Beadles Nursing Home and Share Medical Center in Woods County; 21 with 20 recovered at Mooreland Heritage Manor and 31 with 28 recovered and two deaths at Woodward Skilled Nursing and Therapy in Woodward County; and five recovered cases at Center of Family Love in Okarche, just south of the Kingfisher County line, in Canadian County, according to OSDH.

COVID-19 testing

State Health Department officials are encouraging Oklahomans to get tested for COVID-19, saying recently that due to adequate supplies, residents no longer need to exhibit symptoms or report exposure to someone with the virus to get in line for testing.

Free testing for COVID-19 is ongoing at the Garfield County and other state Health Departments. Testing is by appointment only for Blaine County, 521 W. 4th, Watonga, (580) 623-7977; Garfield County, 2501 S. Mercer, Enid, (580) 233-0650; Grant County, 115 N. Main, Medford, (580) 395-2906; Kingfisher County, 124 E. Sheridan, courthouse annex room #101, Kingfisher, (405) 375-3008; Major County, 501 E. Broadway, Fairview, (580) 227-3362; Noble County, 300 Fir St., Perry, (580) 336-2257; Woods County, 511 Barnes St., Alva, (580) 327-3192; and Woodward County, 1631 Texas Ave., Woodward, (580) 256-6416. Some health department also advise the public to check their Facebook pages for more information regarding testing.

COVID-19 signs

Emergency warning signs for COVID-19 are trouble breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, new confusion or inability to arouse, bluish lips or face, according to the CDC. More information can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html.

Those with symptoms of COVID-19 should call ahead to local emergency rooms. Those with minor symptoms should contact their regular physicians.
