Take heavy metal, add in a little Japanese pop, and what do you get?
BABYMETAL.
The band that has taken Japan by storm has now taken the world … OK, maybe not the world … but the News & Eagle office, at least, by storm.
You’d think that I’d find these bands myself.
Sadly, that’s not the case. I’m afraid it was a fellow employee in the newsroom.
He’s absolutely gaga over the band and their music. His wife, by the way, thinks he’s nuts … allegedly.
Me? I’m just nuts.
OK, maybe not completely. But I do know fun music when I hear it.
Earlier this year, on Feb. 26, BABYMETAL released its debut, self-titled album. It reached No. 2 on the Japanese billboard, and, get this, No. 12 on the U.S. Hard Rock charts.
Their singles so far include “Doki Doki Morning,” “Babymetal x Kiba of Akiba,” “Head Bangya!!,” “Ijime, Dame, Zettai” and “Megitsune.”
I may be part-Japanese, but I have no idea what any of that means.
As I type this column, about 10 minutes ago, I actually listened to one of their other, and newest, songs: “Gimme Chocolate!!”
I think that’s one my wife, and a lot of women, for that matter, will understand.
Worldwide craze or not, this is music you should get your hands, eyes or ears on.
Or, if you’re cheap like me, go to Spotify or Youtube and type in BABYMETAL.
Move over, Killswitch Engage. BABYMETAL is taking over.
