ENID, Okla. — More than $32,000 was raised at the 32nd annual United Way of Enid and Northwest Oklahoma golf tournament and Ronna Richards Memorial, according to a United Way news release, making it the "most successful" in the organization's history.
More than 187 golfers came out to Meadowlake Golf Course on June 28 to play and raise money for United Way and its partner agencies, the release said.
"This tournament is the most successful tournament on record by money raised," said Darren Janes, chair of United Way of Enid and NWOK Golf Committee, crediting this year's sponsors, which "made all the difference and really added to the final numbers."
NextEra Energy Resources was title sponsor for the 2019 tournament.
Dan Schiedel, United Way director, expressed thanks to community members and partners for showing up to play, and for helping organize the record-setting day on the greens.
“We have an incredibly blessed community with many individuals and businesses who have generous hearts who care and support our most vulnerable through our agency’s work,” Schiedel said. “I think many don’t realize how great of an impact their participation makes; they are helping to effect our community’s health, education, and income initiatives that make a positive difference in thousands of lives.
“Every person who contributes can take pride in knowing their United Way dollars are continually at work helping others in need with a hand up,” Schiedel said.
United Way also tallied up the best scores from the morning and afternoon.
