Oklahoma Pacers coach Chad Boese is optimistic about his young team's future.

The Pacers are made up of several players from the Enid High School Pacers team.

The EHS Pacers will lose six seniors, including leading scorer Haley Downing, off of a team that lost in the area losers bracket finals. But Boese said that won't stop the Pacers from contending.

"This is definitely reloading for us," said Boese. "We've probably got three or four freshman that will contribute to our team next year."

It's because of freshman inexperience the Pacers' summer league team is such a valuable asset.

"This group is talented," said Boese. "We're still young, we still make mistakes."

It was Sydni Jones, who will be a senior at EHS this fall, that led the Pacers to a 46-42 victory in their final pool play match against the SWOKIE Hoopsters Saturday at Oklahoma Bible Academy.

Jones and soon-to-be junior Heather Woods combined to score 24 of the Pacers' 31 second-half points in a come-from-behind win.

"Sydni is our senior leader," said Boese. "Heather is doing great things this summer. She is developing her jump shot and is already a great penetrater."

Jones finished with 12 points, and Woods finished with 13.

Megan Mayberry also made a good contribution, scoring eight points, six of them on 3-pointers.

Boese is optimistic about freshmen Alex Jones and Aly Seng and sophomore Natasha Flynn.

All contributed in their game Saturday.

Alex Jones finished with four points, Flynn finished two points and three rebounds, and Seng finished with six points.

"Natasha has been doing great things for us this summer," said Boese. "She's been working hard in the gym all summer."

The Pacers now are 2-0 in the tournament and have won their pool. They advanced into the high school girls playoffs. The championship game will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at OBA.
