What's 2 Do in Enid, area this weekend

ENID, Okla. — ‘Night of the Living Dead’

8 p.m. today, Saturday and Halloween

Gaslight Theatre

Mysterious radiation? Check. Flesh-eating zombies? Check. “Night of the Living Dead” on Halloween night? You bet.

Get ready to experience thrills and chills at Gaslight Theatre during each performance of “Night of the Living Dead.” Performances will be at 8 tonight and Saturday night, as well as on Halloween evening.

In the play, fallout from a satellite probe shot to Venus returns to Earth with mysterious radiation. This radiation causes the dead to transform into terrifying flesh-eating zombies. Seven people trapped in an isolated farmhouse begin to turn on each other as the living dead approach on all sides.

Tickets for each performance can be purchased at Cost is $7, $11 or $14.

Bring your children to downtown Enid on Saturday to trick-or-treat in a safe, family-friendly environment.

Activities and events will include costume contest, Halloween Queen pageant, nighttime costume parade, jack-o’-lantern contest, and best apple or pumpkin recipe contest. Candy, caramel apples, hot dogs and other goodies also will be available.

Several community organizations and departments, including Enid Police Department, Enid Fire Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Department, will be on hand to make sure participants have a fun and safe time.

Pet Costume Contest

2 p.m. Sunday

Atwoods, corner of Garland and Garriott

Pets will vie for top honors at this year’s Atwoods Ranch & Home Pet Costume Contest, scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.

Any pet is eligible, but must be on a leash or contained. Pets will be judged on their costumes in four weight categories: less than 10 pounds, 10 to 20 pounds, 21 to 100 pounds, and more than 100 pounds. There will be four winning places in each of the four categories, as well as grand champion and manager’s choice.

Winners will receive pet supply prizes from vendors including Cargill Feed, Miller Mfg., Butcher’s Bones, Tomlyn, Purina, Iams, Summa Coastal and Petmate. All entries will receive free pet treats and the chance to win one of many door prizes.
