ENE archives: Chautauqua in the Park Slated for June

Summer Chautauqua continues today and Saturday at Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center and Humphrey Heritage Village with music, food and talks by historical characters.

At 10:30 a.m. today, Humphrey Heritage Village will host a workshop called “My Harlem: The Harlem Renaissance Through the Eyes of its Poets.” The second workshop of the day at noon will be “Bob ‘Tinker Army Air Base’ Hope!”

Later in the day, at 6:30, Gaslight Theatre will perform selections from their performance of “Fiddler on the Roof.” At 7:30, John Anderson will take the stage to give a performance of William Faulkner.

Festivities continue on Saturday with a workshop at noon titled “The Stars and Wars of Jack L. Warner.” Another workshop, at noon, will be “Faulkner, Film and Race: Intruder in the Dust.”

More entertainment will be provided at 6:30, and Summer Chautauqua will wrap up at 7:30 with a performance by Charles Pace playing Gordon Parks.

Historical Walking Tour

Want to learn more about the history of Enid? Grab your walking shoes and join Cactus Jack as he takes you on a historical tour of downtown Enid — and gives you the chance to meet some colorful characters along the way.

Chisholm Trail Coalition’s Historical Walking Tours are scheduled for the third Saturday of each month April through September.
