Helena museum holding lunch

Helena Historical Museum will host a German stew lunch and pie and cake contest on Saturday.

Pie and cake entries will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Ribbons will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place winners, and the grand champion will receive a gift certificate from Garden Gate Gifts.

Lunch will be served at 11 a.m., which will include German stew, drink and dessert. The historical society’s annual meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m., followed by an auction of the top winning pie and cake entries.

The museum will be open to visitors 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day.

Ring of Woods festival upcoming

Ringwood will be celebrating its 3rd annual Ring of Woods Fall Festival Oct. 13.

The day will begin with a Chuck Wagon breakfast at 8 a.m. Attendees can check out the Ultimate Shootout Archery Trailer, a trailer which, on one side, folds up, revealing a natural hunting situation. Everyone will have an opportunity to shoot a compound bow at three dimensional targets.

Other events include quilt, art and gun shows, kids activity center and tractor showing. A dutch oven cook-off will occur during the morning with public tasting at noon.

The event is sponsored by Ringwood Chamber of Commerce.

Katy Kelly holding book signing

Children’s author Katy Kelly will come to Public Library of Enid and Garfield County for a visit and book signing 2-4 p.m. Saturday.

Kelly is the author of the Melonhead series.

The program will begin at 2 p.m., with Kelly speaking about her work at 2:30 p.m.

Kelly’s Melonhead and Lucy Rose series are based near the Capitol in Washington, D.C., where she grew up and still lives. Melonhead is based on the author’s real-life brother, whose life is filled with antics that lead to disasters in his wake.

Softball tournament is Saturday

The first Sherry Ann Suttmiller Memorial Softball Tournament will be held Saturday at Kellet Park on South Cleveland.

There will be activities for kids, as well as a bake sale, food baskets and raffles for prizes.
