UPDATE: Joplin Globe staff perseveres through personal losses to publish newspaper

JOPLIN, MO — JOPLIN, MO -- Even though about 20 Joplin Globe newspaper employees lost their homes during Sunday evening’s deadly tornado, news staff went into the newspaper office and produced the Monday edition complete with stories, first-hand accounts and photographs.

The Joplin Globe is owned by Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc., and is a sister newspaper to the Enid News & Eagle.

“A number of those folks who lost homes went into the Globe Sunday night to make sure the paper was published and this vital edition made it onto the streets,” said Keith Ponder, a CNHI division manager. “Joplin published on their press last night, and we expect to continue that pattern all week.”

The Joplin Globe newspaper is located in downtown Joplin. Most of the damage from the storm appears to be in the southern area of the community, which is near I-44.
