MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Authorities say a Muskogee man died while trying to rescue his pets from a house fire.
Firefighters say Malcolm Moore had made sure his wife and two young sons escaped safely from their burning home Friday before turning back in an effort to save his pets. His body was found by firefighters in the middle of the house near a pet pen.
Firefighters say they were called to the home shortly before 2:30 a.m. Friday and that the fire did not appear suspicious — although a cause has not been determined.
Family members at the scene told reporters that Moore had built the house and moved into it with his family about a month ago.
