STILLWATER, Okla. — A Tulsa man is suing Oklahoma State University in connection with the death of his wife at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Ronald Mayfield’s 66-year-old wife Charlotte died from head injuries sustained from falling backward down a set of stadium steps Dec. 9, 2011. She was there to watch her grandson’s Class 3A championship football game.

Mayfield filed suit against the school Tuesday alleging the construction of the stadium was negligent. The suit’s petition contends the woman fell while climbing the steps  to her seat. The suit said the university was negligent because of the graduated sizing of the steps, lack of handrails and  similar color of all the steps making it difficult to see where one step ended and the next one began.

Mayfield is seeking in excess of $75,000 for medical expenses, funeral expenses and suffering of losing his wife.
