    The new-look Big 12 is ready for some football.  
    OK, the conference’s logo is what’s new this year. There are no changes in the makeup or format of the 10-team league, the only power conference with a round-robin schedule that determines a champion without an extra game.

    With the release of last week’s Big 12 Conference preseason media poll, it was clear to me some people regard Oklahoma way too highly in this offensive-oriented conference.

  • Woodward win puts Minors in regional

    The Enid Minors could put aside its rivalry with the Woodward Travelers Sunday.
    The Travelers’ 3-2 win over the Oklahoma City Athletics in the championship game of the Connie Mack State Tournament  at David Allen Memorial Ballpark put the Minors in the South Plains Regional, which begins Tuesday at the downtown ballpark.

  • McIlroy wins British Open by 2 shots

    Walking off the 18th green as the British Open champion, Rory McIlroy kept gazing at all the greats on golf’s oldest trophy.
    On the claret jug, his name is etched in silver below Phil Mickelson.
    In the record book, he is listed behind Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the youngest to get three legs of the career Grand Slam.
    And over four days at Royal Liverpool, he had no equal.
