Pond Creek-Hunter took took an early lead, but could not hold off Cheyenne-Reydon as the Lady Bears topped Pond Creek-Hunter 51-41 Thursday in a Class A girls state tournament quarterfinal game at Abe Lemons Arena on the campus of Oklahoma City University.
The Lady Panthers briefly led in the first quarter and held a 5-2 lead before Cheyenne went on a 9-0 run and the Lady Bears never trailed again.
Cheyenne would go on a 13-0 run in the second period and extended its lead to 24-9 at one point. Pond Creek-Hunter rallied, but still trailed 27-20 by halftime.
A torrid third period saw the Lady Bears’ lead grow to 15 points and Cheyenne never was seriously challenged the rest of the way.
PC-Hunter senior Carson Ferguson and junior Rylie Halcomb led the Lady Panthers with 10 points each. Junior Jade Jones, playing with a knee brace, added nine points. The No. 5 Lady Panthers finish their season at 25-5.
Cheyenne was led in scoring by Morgan Latta’s game-high 18 points. The No. 7 Lady Bears (24-6) advance to the semifinals today against Kiowa, which defeated Fort Cobb-Braxton 55-47 on Thursday.
