Enid News & Eagle

JENKS, Okla. — Jenks avenged last year’s loss to the Enid wrestlers Thursday night.

The Plainsmen won only four matches — Anthony Gonzales at 145, Billy Grothe at 126, Zack Overbeck at 195 and Jake Scott at 220.

“We’re wrestling hot and cold,’’ said EHS coach Jory Dick.

The Plainsmen were assigned to the Eastern Regional at Bixby in two weeks. EHS will be joined by Bartlesville, Bixby, Booker T. Washington, Broken Arrow, Choctaw, Edmond Memorial, Enid, Jenks, Nathan Hale, Owasso, Ponca City, Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Stillwater and Union.

“We expected that,’’ Dick said. “It’s the tougher regional, but I still feel confident we’ll have guys in state.’’

Enid will host the state junior high tournament, beginning at 11 a.m. today at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center Coliseum.

Dick said there are more than 500 entries. There will be both a middle school (grades 6-7) and junior high (7-8-9) division.
