NORMAN, Okla. —
Enid’s boys had five medalists in finishing fifth at an indoor track meet at the University of Oklahoma facility.
Seth “Popeye’’ Handley was second in the 200 meters (23.1 seconds) and third in the 400 meters (51.1 seconds). Teammate Alex Lofton was second in the 400 with a 50.3.
Marshawn Mills was third in the high jump with a leap of six feet.
Handley, Mills and Lofton teamed with Alex McCoy to finish fourth in the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:35.
The Plainsmen had 36 points to record their highest finish ever at the OU meet.
“We did better than I thought we would,’’ said EHS coach Joe Miranov. “We had a lot of coaches giving us compliments. We had some really good splits on the relays.’’
Mills competed in the high jump for the first time.
“He was just messing around and decided to try it,’’ Miranov said. “He has a lot of ups to him.’’
The Pacers had one placer in the girls — sophomore Macy Adams, who was third in the high jump with a leap of 5-0.
Enid was 14th overall with six points.
The EHS teams will be going to two indoor meets at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center Coliseum in February.
“We’re looking forward to seeing what we can do there,’’ Miranov said. “We’re excited about the outdoor season.’’聰
