Red Dirt tourney starts Friday

ENID, Okla. — Despite the Enid Majors and Enid Minors playing in out-of-town holiday baseball tournaments, there still will be plenty of baseball being played this weekend at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

The Red Dirt Sports Association is holding its year-end state baseball tournament at David Allen with nine teams competing for the title starting with a marathon seven games Friday, leading up to the championship games on Sunday.

The top-seed in the American Amateur Baseball Congress-affiliated league is the Enid Rookies (15-under). Enid’s first game of the tournament is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday against the winner of the day’s opening game — slated for a 9 a.m first pitch — between No. 8 Vici and No. 9 Pond Creek.

Friday’s other scheduled games include No. 5 Weatherford vs. No. 4 Chisholm at 11 a.m.; No. 2 Alva vs. No. 7 Woodward at 2 p.m.; and No. 3 Leedey vs. No. 6 Laverne at 4 p.m. Winners of the opening round games advance to the next round of the winner’s bracket that night with games at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Opening-round losers drop down to the consolation bracket.

There also will be fireworks Friday night after the scheduled 8 p.m. game and before the game slated for 10 p.m. If Enid wins its opening round game, it will play in the 10 p.m. nightcap.

Seven more games are slated for Saturday starting at 9 a.m. and the championship round is Sunday with games at 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and if necessary, 7 p.m.
