Prep roundup for 10-11-13

ENID, Okla. — 11-man

Elgin (3-2, 1-1) at Woodward (4-1, 2-0) — Woodward, ranked No. 9 in 4A, is 4-1 for the first time since 2001. The Boomers are coming off a 34-0 shutout of Weatherford, their first shutout since 2010. Elgin tries to bounce back from a 35-7 loss to No. 3 Clinton. Woodward has won the last two meetings, including a 37-35 squeaker last season.

John Marshall (3-2, 1-1) at Kingfisher (5-0, 2-0) — The Yellowjackets, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, have shutout their last three opponents. The Kingfisher defense has forced 16 turnovers — 11 interceptions and five fumbles. The Bears look to come back from last week’s 42-17 loss to Heritage Hall. Kingfisher has won all five meetings since 2008, including back-to-back 66-0 and 63-0 wins. Landon Nault has scored 16 touchdowns for Kingfisher.

Pawnee (2-3, 0-2) at Alva (3-2, 1-1) — The visiting Black Bears face a near must-win situation against the Goldbugs, who rallied to beat Perry 34-21 last week for their first district win. Alva won last year’s game 55-3.

Perry (1-4, 0-2) at Hennessey (4-1, 1-0) — Hennessey kept its No. 5 ranking in 2A after surviving Chisholm 21-20. The Eagles have won 14 straight district contests. Perry tries to stay in the playoff chase after losses to Tonkawa, 7-6 and Alva, 34-21. The Maroons have dropped four straight since opening the season with a 21-6 win over Blackwell. Hennessey is a perfect 5-0 against Perry since 2006.

Mooreland (3-2, 0-2) at Beaver (1-4, 0-2) — Both teams are fighting for their playoff lives after both fell to OBA and Texhoma to open the district season. Beaver is trying to break a four-game losing streak after opening the season with a 19-0 win over Stanton County, Kan. Beaver leads the series 22-15 since 1976. Mooreland broke a four-game losing streak to the Dusters, 35-22 last season.

Fairview (2-3, 1-1) at Hooker (1-3, 1-1) — The visiting Yellowjackets, considered one of the preseason favorites in A-1, broke a threºe-game losing streak by shutting out Turpin 47-0 last week. The Yellowjackets, despite playing just one half, had season highs in rushing (291) and passing (177). They held the Cardinals to 98 yards in total offense. Hooker is coming off a 33-7 loss to Okeene. Fairview has won the last three meetings by a combined score of 144-58.

Okeene (4-1, 2-0) at Turpin (0-4, 0-2) — The Whippets are ranked No. 6 in Class A after the 33-7 win over Hooker. Cade Mitch ran for two scores as Okeene had 247 yards on the ground. The Whippets are riding a three-game winning streak. Okeene has allowed only two TDs over that period. Turpin, which drops to 8-man next season, has lost 22 straight games. Okeene has won five straight. They lead the series 8-2 since 1990.

Crescent (4-1, 2-0) at Minco (4-1, 2-0) — The District A-3 lead is up for grabs. Crescent’s lone loss was to OBA 18-2 in the second week of the season. The Bulldogs have won four straight since losing to Dibble, 28-20 on opening night. Crescent won last season, 42-21.

    Rice will miss the season opener against AFC North champion Cincinnati on Sept. 7 and the Sept. 11 game on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
