Luke Halpin threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns as Arkansas Tech beat Northwestern Oklahoma State 38-10 in both the season and Great American Conference football opener for both teams.
Halpin and John Simpson connected on a pair of 13-yard touchdown passes.
The Wonder Boys’ other scores came on a two-yard run by Justin Owens, a five-yard run by Casey Henderson, a 10-yard run by Ketrich Harmon and a 34-yard field goal by Randy Velazquez.
Kevin Ditch kicked a 25-yard field goal with 6:42 left in the first quarter to give NWOSU an early 3-0 lead.
Quarterback Reid Miller’s 26-yard touchdown run with 12:51 left in the first half pulled the Rangers to within four, 14-10.
However, the Wonder Boys scored 24 unanswered points.
Arkansas Tech outgained NWOSU 431-214.
Miller, making his varsity debut, rushed for 46 yards on 12 carries, but was sacked four times. He was 10 of 32 passing for 83 yards.
Jeremi Anderson caught five passes for 24 yards.
Rontez Smith was credited with eight unassisted and three assisted tackles for the Rangers.
