ENID, Okla. —
The Enid-Ponca City rivalry heats up a little today when the Pacers visit the Lady Wildcats for a key District 6A-4 game at 7 p.m.
Ponca City (8-2) dropped to 1-2 in district play with a 9-1 loss to Westmoore Tuesday. Enid (6-8) raised its district record to 2-3 with a 16-5 rout of Midwest City.
“Ponca City is one of our tougher district opponents,’’ said Pacers coach Marsha Cusack. “That adds a little bit to the rivalry.’’
Freshman Keara Jenkins leads the EHS offense with a .500 average, followed by Ally Lewis (.393), Haven Bay (.368) and McKayla Herbst (.268).
Lewis, who will be on the mound for EHS, leads the team in RBI with 15. Shelley Mueller has driven in nine runs, including five against Midwest City. Abby Lee has eight RBI.
“Keara has really stepped it up at the plate,’’ Cusack said. “Ponca City has a very good pitcher, so we’re going to have to step up and go hit the ball.
“We’ll probably have to go with a short game more, because their pitcher has such good speed and movement. We’re going to have to correct the errors we have made in the field and on the bases. We need to play as good a game as we can.’’
The game can be heard on KGWANews.com.
Ponca City’s district win was over Midwest City, 13-0 on Aug. 19. The Lady Wildcats’ other district loss was to Broken Arrow 10-0 on Aug. 20.
Enid will host Ponca City on Tuesday.
