Volleyers sweep Shawnee

ENID, Okla. — Chloe Cordell (11) and Grace Enmeier (10) combined for 21 kills as Enid’s volleyball team swept Shawnee 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-17) Tuesday at Waller Middle School.

“We played a lot better than we have been playing,’’ said Enid coach Steve Bloom. “We were able to take care of our serving problems.’’

The Pacers had devoted Monday’s practice to improve their serving. They had 11 aces on the night — four by Cordell, two by Shaelyn Vaughn, Sarah Blakley and Enmeier and one by Taylor Smith.

“We changed a couple of things that we were doing,’’ Bloom said. “It paid off. We cut down on our service errors. The girls were on fire tonight.’’

Cordell also had six digs and two blocks. Enmeier  also added four digs and four blocks.

Vaughn had two kills and three digs. Blakely had four kills, four digs and four blocks. McKenna James had seven kills and four blocks. Smith also had six kills and one block.

“The entire team played well tonight,’’ Bloom said. “The good thing was that we were able to get everybody some playing time. The girls who came in off the bench kept the momentum going. We had a good crowd tonight. It couldn’t have been a much better night.’’

Ashton Halper had one kill. Taylor Foster was credited with four digs. Brianna Burrow had two digs. Katrina Blum had one kill and one dig.

The win boosted Enid’s record to 8-3. The Pacers visit Glenpool Thursday.

“In the games we had played so far (up to Tuesday), we consistently saw the same problems,’’ Bloom said. “We worked on them and were able to clean them up.’’

EHS visits Glenpool Thursday.
