Harger, Lofton 1-2 in boys’ 400

BETHANY, Okla. — In the preseason, Enid track coach Joe Miranov said he thought move-in Ryan Harger could be the biggest threat to Plainsmen senior Alex Lofton’s bid to win the 400 meters at the Class 6A state meet.

Harger proved Miranov’s point Saturday at the Bethany Invitational.

Harger (51.04) and Lofton (51.2) were 1-2 in the boys’ 400 meters as the Plainsmen finished fourth in the 22-team meet with 80 points. Guthrie won with 128. Harger was third in the 200 meters in 22.7.

Harger and Lofton teamed with Chris Daniels and Raheem Mitchell to win the 1,600 relay in 3:30. Harger teamed with Mitchell, Daniels and Marshawn Mills to finish third in the 400-meter relay (43.4).

Lofton was in his first meet since having finger surgery recently. He teamed with Mitchell, Daniels and Mills to finish third in the 800 relay in 1:31.

“Ryan had a great meet,’’  Miranov said. “I think Alex’s coming back from surgery boosted everybody’s morale. We were pretty pumped up for this.’’

Mills gave EHS some field event points with a third-place finish in the long jump (21-4) and a fourth in the high jump (5-10).

Aaron Beagle, Gavin Lack, Antonio Thomas and Garrett Wallace were sixth in the 3,200 relay in 9:08.

The EHS girls were seventh with 35 points. McGuinness won with 85.

Macy Adams was Enid’s highest finisher with a second in the high jump. Rachel Shewey was third in the 300 hurdles, 52.18;  fifth in the 100 hurdles, 19.03 and sixth in the high jump, 4-6.

Andi Pierce (5:53) and Tyler Berge (5:59) were fourth and sixth in the 1,600. They teamed with Irene DelaTorre and Kylynn Barton to finish fifth in the 3,200 relay (11:19). Berge was sixth in the 3,200 (13:07), while Pierce was seventh in the 800 (2:38).

Keara Jenkins was fourth in the long jump (15-4) and teamed with Baylee Hammons, Anne-lise Schloss and Ke’lea Quinn-Phillips to finish eighth in the 800 relay (1:57).

Misha Claytor was fourth in the 400 meters (1:04.2).

The Pacers and Plainsmen will go to the Yukon Sundowner meet on Tuesday.
