Sports briefs for 3-26-13

ENID, Okla. — Plainsmen to host

Generals in twinbill

Cold weather and high winds caused the postponement of the Enid Plainsmen’s baseball game Monday against U.S.Grant. The game now will be made up as part of a 6 p.m. doubleheader today at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

The Plainsmen (3-9), losers of four of their last five games, will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak against the Generals (7-6) in today’s District 6A-4 doubleheader. U.S. Grant recently won the All-City Tournament in Oklahoma City.

EHS freshman Jonny Chavez is expected to make his first career varsity start in the opener with junior Christian Voitik taking the mound in the second game. Both games will be broadcast by KCRC (1390 AM).

After today, Enid plays twice Thursday — against Stillwater at 4 p.m. and Tulsa Union at 8 — on the opening day of the annual three-day Gladys Winters Tournament at David Allen. The Plainsmen are scheduled to play Putnam City North at 6 p.m. Friday and wrapup the tournament with a 4 p.m. Saturday game against Yukon.

It also was announced Monday  Enid’s scheduled home game against Stillwater on April 16 and its game at Stillwater on April 18 both have been canceled due to a potential conflict for Stillwater with the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association’s rules limiting the number of games a team may play. The potential conflict arose due to the Pioneers’ participation in a tournament.
